I really like your closing question, bringing it back to what I can do. In comparison to the immensity of the global issues, what I feel moved to do feels trite, but it's to support humans with better storytelling. Since taking on this joyful "mission" I just see over and over that the practice of storytelling helps humans understand where they've been, where they're going, and how they can communicate their strengths, purpose, and gifts to the world. That feels imminently important to me right now. If there were ever a time to make our highest contribution without holding back or hiding out, this is it! Discovering our real stories and sharing them feels important to me. And I've now got 1000 days to make a difference!
I felt the power of action and agency when I realized that if I focused on the few things, my preferred futures become more possible. Now to share that idea more broadly!
The 1000 day window for high school was an aha! as I was speaking with high school counselors on Friday. We think we have no control. But we do have agency.
Karena, I got to ask, do you think the signals for OUR OWN future exist today? (A little self-centred I know but...)
The reason I ask is that as creators, we often read/hear that our future depends on the daily actions were perform. So I'm wondering if there are any signals in this realm that we need to pick up (and act on)
Great question to wake to, Ishan! And the answer is YES. You and I can spend sometime on a call and I'll talk you through some simple techniques you can use.
BUT. I caution you. Don't craft your own future too tightly or you can miss out on the serendipity of new events showing up on the horizon.
In the worst scenarios (loss of health, wealth) you would focus on how you find your agency and recover out of those moments. For the best case scenarios, it would be learning to say NO to the distractions, and lean more squarely into those that get you where you hope to go. You know you have a edit two on your book, and have to graduate. You are not doing WoP11. That is a conscious NO. But you are staying connected to the community - that is a good signal as you leverage your growing band of supporters.
Yes I've added this to my list of "Karena Questions" to discuss further.
I have a follow up though. Do you recommend journaling for one to understand what opportunities are worth rejecting? Because rejecting opportunities seems like a first world problem, and this feeling overwhelms me every time I have to do so (like not doing the WOP editor training so that I can focus on the book, for example...)
What are your tips for recognising serendipity while at the same time not taking too much on your plate?

1000 days is doable. And we each make our difference the way we are able. Thanks for making your own impact.
What a provocative post Karena. You've left me with lots to ponder, thank you!

Thank you for the word provocative.
I love this 1000 days exercise, Karena. It’s empowering, thoughtful, and thought-provoking. Thank you for sharing it— in an educational context, too!

Hope my question is clear!

Hope I'm not bombarding you with questions!
What is it about round numbers that make everything seem so possible? :)
Would you prefer 2.75 years?! But you are right. That number has enough play to trick our minds into the realm of "possible"
