“You can see the outline of the original glacier from the moraine (rocky debris) that extends across the current highway. It is now 5% of its original size and will disappear within 50 years,”
This is so scary. It's exactly what happened in Pakistan and is happening right now resulting in super floods.
Your newsletter brings me so much hope, Karena. The planet will take care of itself...it's if we want to be a part of the future or not. So well said. This edition was such a beautiful coming together of you as a traveler, nature-lover, climate change agent, and the future of work.
Come visit, Ishan! There is no filter on these photos. They are posted as taken (before I did Foster's class, so they could be so much better!) Like the Himalayas, this place is inspirational and does not disappoint. My husband "collects" mountain ranges, so we have visited a few in my time. They are humbling and inspiring all at once. They remind me that I am here for but a millisecond in the timeline of planet earth.
Nice one, as usual. Cheers.... Too few of "our age folk" tend to spare a thought for the Environment. Dunno why really. But glad the younger set are better informed and better ambassadors for mother earth too. Maybe it's coz we weren't clued-in-to-it, growing up? Or didn't have so much info, on the issues involved? Always makes me wonder. Do keep up the good work Karena, there never can be enough folk rooting for mother earth.
What a beautiful comment, Ricky. Thanks. I think many of us who were privileged to grow up in Goa have an automatic connection to the Earth. We just have to maintain the tension.
That really does change my perspective on time. And permanence. When the sun can turn into a White Dwarf. I found the conversation around 3:46 really put me in my place, timeline-wise. When we think in terms of 3 trillion years and counting ...
"Thinking long term, what structures do you build/see persisting 2000 years?" That is a question that Futurist Thomas Frey posed in a class I took last year. The Pyramids, the Great Wall of China, Machu Picchu and then nature like the Himalayas, Grand Canyon, Alps and the Rockies. It was a very thought-provoking question.
This is such a beautiful opening, Karena:
“When the mountains, rocks and glaciers are carrying wrinkles much older than mine, I understand my place in the grand scheme of time.”
Very poetic and calming. Such a therapeutic read.
Thank you, Allie. It was a birthday trip, and my years were on my mind until I saw ... older. Humbling. And very rejuvenating!
I so agree Alexandra. It was a lyrical opening.

I want to bring hope into the climate conversation, Sana. So I really value your comment here. Thank you.
Mygosh these lakes are unreal
But that's the thing. They ARE real! No filter. No edits. Just pure God-given glorious.
I think I've fallen in love with these photographs...

Beauteous images. Thank you so much for taking me to such treasures.

Matthew Villwock shared with me another wrinkle in time:

Wow! Thank you Andrew.
