Brooke inspired me to write a letter to myself, addressed for end of 2025. I was scared to write it (knowing some big changes ahead) but it felt great to know that I was rooting for me :)
P.S. I agree that Linart's video message was so so so so incredibly special!
There! Her idea has impacted so many more people. I am rooting for you right by futureBecky, hoping that this year unfolds with as much mystery and surprise as planning and purpose.
And ++5 to Linart's video! Did yours make you blubber too? If he could track the number of times I have hit re-play on those three minutes!
I unexpectedly realized that Encouragers³ also need encouragement. This is a valuable observation Karena. You do so much to encourage others, including me! Thank you for your posts and your wisdom. I love the shoebox idea! Brilliant.
From the author of "Wisdom of Elephants" that feels like a blessing, Kathy! I get so much from those around me, it is fitting to share some of it forward.
I love the idea of a year in a shoebox!! I currently have miscellaneous containers for various seasons of my life but shoeboxes are both more organized and sound more fun at the end of the year. Might try that (now I just need a shoebox).
One other thing, Rachel ... I realized (later in life) that each of us "organizes" differently. This aha really helped me. See footnote 4 to Harrison Moore. Google "TED founder Richard Saul Wurman and his LATCH approach" to organizing and presenting information. When I realized that I retrieve memories and store information chronologically, my system made more sense.
For others, C=Categories or A=Alphabetically might be the magic unlock.
Oh interesting. I'll need to observe this more in my life. My personal notes tend to be grouped by category with time as a secondary grouping. I wonder if I do the same with most other things.
Karena! So much goodness in here. I just loved this and will begin it now:
“At the start of each year, I stick a label on a shoebox with the year. As the year progresses, we dump all our memories (airline ticket stubs, champagne corks, conference lanyards, postcards, rose petals) that would otherwise clutter our drawers and desks. At year-end, we upend the box and take a slow walk reminiscing through all that has happened during that year.”
I think these years with your girls will be create a wonderful memory trail. We realized that January fades into the distance by the time December rolls around, so upending the box (or starting at the top and working your way backwards) usually ends up with lots of "Oh, was that this year?"
Make Great Memories, James Bailey! You will be living off these for the next two decades!

That's a wonderful combo 💙 and yes! I never received anything like this before. He's very precious

Thank you for asking your question the other day. It added ballast to the post I already had in mind.
Seeing as you think so much about footwork, I am sure you have a shoebox or three sitting around! (Great posts on dancing, by the way, Rachel!)

Our kids will LOVE it! So will we!
Bless you!❤️

Karena - is this the year you bring your community together in ways that lie beyond reading the gem of your newsletter?
I’m wondering when we might be joining the gathering around the picnic rug you’ve laid down on the grass …
Instigated and inspired by you, Eric? Yes! That is my plan. I am trying to figure out the mechanics. Or should I just start a group chat?!!
I feel like a gatherer, surrounded by generous and curious people. I love it when the spokes on my wheel connect and start their own carriage.
I’d be delighted to help you find a path!
