The Board of Future Energy Oakville (FEO) is recruiting for a full-time Executive Director. We’d prefer an Oakville/Halton-based applicant. But recruiting is like dating. You just don’t know who knows who knows who and who will introduce you to that ideal candidate!
We have taken significant steps in Community Engagement lately including an Energy Podcast and would like to maintain that momentum.
This is a great position to apply for if you:
Are considering how to make a difference in reducing Energy consumption in general, and in Ontario in particular
Want to work on projects that will keep rewarding us for decades
Have industry experience with, or want to engage industry leaders across a variety of silos including automotive, municipal, construction, education.
I sit on the Board of FEO1. Check our LinkedIn page for fresh updates. Please contact me if you need a link to the document below, or would like to discuss the opportunity further.
Nuturing Future-Ready Leaders
Do you know how there is that one essay that lives with you all week long? This one has not let go since
‘s essay High Agency Children landed in my inbox last Sunday.“How do I equip my children to live life in world system that constantly stretches the boundaries on what is possible? How do I raise a generation of Future-Ready Leaders?” If, like me, these question kept/keeps you up at night, then do yourself a favour. Grab a long glass of your favorite form of hydration and sit down to read, then re-read this essay.
It is being possibility-seeing
In her essay,
debates the wonder of uncertainty. She lists eight factors that she has researched and observed that help us preserve the natural agency that all small children are born with:Doing useful things. No demarcation between children games and adult activities. This section reminded me of the findings in the book Hunt, Gather, Parent.
Taking Risks is encouraged, (and our obsession with Safety is re-examined)
Unconditional Love surprisingly includes a link to an NVC (Non Violent Communication shared by the father of Ethereum’s founder Vitalik Buterin2
Linking things the kid is learning to what is important to him
The concept of Agency hit in the solar plexus for me. As the daughter of a school principal, I grew up very straight-laced (maybe even strait-laced!) Thankfully my husband fed a good dose of agency into our kids. However, it took some serious brain-rewiring for me.
I’ve recommended Anna’s work before. She brings depth and investigative skills in her insightful essays that do seek to change the child in front of us, but transform us as their parents
I often write my letter directly to one Tilt member. Were we discussing fearless parenting recently? Then this section was included specifically for you. And as all the other members of Tribe Tilt, share the segment that resonated or was an aha. I’m dying to continue this conversation!
Future of Work, 21st Century Skills and GenZ
I’d like to introduce you to an emerging writer —
’s Substack is all of one edition old! I met Jack in ‘s class on Framework Thinking (which I highly recommend). He lives in our town, so I get more than the normal number of chances to meet face-to-face.“How does writing help you through these moments of grief?” Not what you would expect someone in their twenties to ask you. Yet, it slowed me right down to evaluate and understand why publishing regularly remained important to me in the weeks that followed my mother’s death.
Wherever you go, you carry within you the love, the dreams, the hope of home.
Jack asks good questions. He asks important questions. His biggest problem to solve is Food Security. He brings himself to every discussion. Time passes quickly when we are together, and I always leave the table filled with food and more curiosity. He introduces me to Bryan Johnson (Don’t Die, life viewed from 2525) and I trade him Sam Knowlton (regenerative agriculture) in return. He is teachable, hungry for the bytes of wisdom I can share forward (make your own mistakes, don’t repeat mine!)
To date, his newsletter reminds me of
meets meets :The aesthetic on his food and location photos reminds me of lessons I learned in
‘s photography program. He loves food. Jack invited my husband and me over to a cook-from-scratch meal together. It is so impressive to see how he translates food flavours from Eastern to Middle-European in his head. And he shares his recipes. Reminding me of
Read him. And if you are interested in his topics, subscribe.
Jack joins the group of GenZ writers3 that I’ve been following on Substack. Their insightful engagement with this world gives me courage. They bring wonder and curiosity, joy and urgency to their writing. Our world is in good hands!
The Cevennes - Barcelona - Madrid - London
As you receive this, I am probably checking in for my flight to Europe. If you are in Europe during May and June, DM me. I’ll be in France at a writer’s retreat working on my second book, followed by special time with my siblings in Spain and the UK. If you are doing WoP or WiC meetups, have an alpaca farm in Wales, or if we can connect over coffee, it will be a joy to meet you in person and add to my collection of IRL photos!
I’ll admit, I’ve been struggling these past weeks. I seem to swap rhythm as often as I swap pillows and suitcases. I still enjoy our conversations, however. This is, after all, more letter then news. So expect more postcards over essays while I find my new footfall.

For the emerging writers in our community - the opportunity to sit on this Board was offered to me after I started getting vocal on my newsletter about my vision for changing the direction of Climate solutions. Go out. Craft your better future. Tilt it in your favour.
A nice tie back to my recent article quizzing how a 20-yr old has the vision and courage to create something that can shift the world. Taking the long view on crypto

We need to add more women’s voices to this list.
A great Tilt Karena. Just last night I shared a communal dining experience with, among others, some guys from Rome in their mid 20s. We are on the Camino in northern Spain and I love these random encounters. Let me tell you these guys know and are passionate about their own food culture. I found it exciting and heartening to be in conversation with them.
Karena, I took your post to heart, sent the section on parents helping their children have agency to my daughter-in-law, and read the terrific article you recommended. Our beloved granddaughter is looking for a new job and moving at the same time - in competitive, wild NYC. Enjoy every moment of your travels!
