1:8bn - I write for the one person in eight billion who needed to hear it framed this way

🧭 Theme for Cycle 31: Showcase other people’s interesting work
I am incredibly lucky to be at the vortex of so much creativity. After a great chat with
this week, I decided I use my next season of posting to shoutout some articles that ping my radar. Because there is so much good work out there!Anniversaries cause us to look back to look forward. At this four-year-anniversary of posting, I find myself asking:
What was my intention for writing? Did I have one?
After reading Akiko’s post, I have also been asking: “Exactly what are your intentions, young lady?” What is the why beneath my why?
Having lasted 10X longer than I had imagined, I am faced with a conundrum:
I have now proven I can. Does it mean I still should? Do I have the mandate and permission to keep taking up precious space in your inbox and minutes of your day?
I seldom see essay long comment conversations like the beautiful one between
and triggered by her essay ‘The Why Beneath the Why’.But this past weekend at coffee with friends in New York, with guests in my home, and in conversations with distant friends via phone or videoconferencing, I hear “Yeah, I remember reading that in your posts.” If my posts instigate a conversation with someone important to you, then they are serving their purpose.
I write to help the one person in 8 billion who needed to hear this in my unique style and voice. Like the conversation on how the “Future of Work” is seeping into the way we live:
Playing the long game - in a world that is moving towards instantaneous everything and shrinking attention spans.
If you think our transition into the Future of Work is a well-planned and paved highway, you are in for a strange surprise. When you realize it’s a roller-coaster, however, your mindset shifts. You can sit back and — even though they are scary — enjoy the twists, turns and lurches ahead.
Technology changes continue to happen at break-neck speed. What is less obvious is the way these are seeping into the very way we work and live. And the unique opportunity it places in front of this particular generation at this specific point in time.
— “Mind the Gap” E78
I will continue to write so that the collective “we” can position ourselves and our next generations to enter the Digital Era with confidence, with an Explorer's mindset, with a sense of childlike curiosity, creativity, and glee.
AND FINALLY … you thought you didn’t have enough time to publish:
‘s latest status is mother of a 1-month boy with two older sisters.
Her latest post is titled “Dog Bites”. As you start reading you quickly realize this title is only the first clue, and it should have been renamed “Home Alone”. She turned that into her 100th essay. Congratulations, Emma!!! On all your parenting and publishing milestones.
It is well worth following
… if just for the photos that accompany her weekly tales of living, adulting and parenting. And now I challenge you to come up with your own good excuse not to write and post!
Write. Please write. Because one person in a 8 billion is waiting to hear what you have to say, in the way only YOU can frame and present it.
Thank you, Emma and Akiko. Today I was your 1 in 8 billion.
Your turn "}…{`
What one thing can you — will you — do today, to tilt the future in your favour?
Which Tilt the Future edition has triggered the most interesting conversations for you?
Stay healthy. From there, all else becomes possible.
And I’ll see you next week …
