1. “I brush and I floss and I brush and I floss”
“Got a goodie bag from the dentist” was the caption that accompanied this little video. “Cute,” I thought as I clicked and watched him play with his little sister and their new toothbrushes. “Pitching down” I know enough to know - from editing my own podcast episodes - that’s not as easy as he makes it out. “808” Complicated. “See that little crackle in the background?” Mind blown. Wait. That’s very Charlie Puth. What? So I sent out an RFMI (request for more information/translation) to my son who had been playing with similar equipment over the winter break.
Got to agree with my son. WOW!
Draw your own conclusions.
I’m not feeling 100% this week and was going to call in an OOO (Out Of Office) version for this edition of the newsletter. But that felt lame - as I truly appreciate you letting me into your mailbox each week, and I want to offer some value. Hence the curated links around Out-of-the-Box Learning as a theme.
2. Two books to pre-order
Two books that expand on the way we learn.
Awaken Your Genius: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary by Ozan Varol
Rocket scientist turned law professor turned author, Ozan has a way of making the complex accessible and encourages out-of-the-box thinking - just my jam. I try to write in his style. I love his first book Think Like a Rocket Scientist and his weekly newsletters. Check him out. If you like what you see, order the book.
https://ozanvarol.com/awaken-pre-order/The Learning Game - Teaching Children to Think for Themselves, Embrace Challenge and Love Learning by Ana Lorena Fabrega
newsletter is a weekly dose of eduTech and common sense. I expect her book to be more of the same.

3. Donations for those suffering the Turkey & Syrian Earthquake
We (I) often talk about Tribe Tilt as a global community that believes in the best of humanity - connecting people, sharing ideas, exploring thoughts respectfully. And we believe we can make a difference to the people and places that are precious to us.”
Requests for humanitarian aid for Turkey and Syria have come in from various sources. If you want a closer connection to your donation here are some requests from Tribe Tilt members, some of whom are closely connected with Turkey.
From Selim Uysal who lives in Istanbul, working with Save the Children (primarily supporting Ukraine)
I picked out some links from the tweet:
Save the Children: https://donate.savethechildren.org/en/donate/turkey-syria-earthquake-emergency-donate…
Hayata Destek: https://www.supporttolife.org/donate/
Read Trevor Brown's "The Earthquake" in his newsletter
A description from Istanbul, where they were far away enough not to feel the tremors but close enough to feel the loss and pain of fellow Turks and fellow humans.
From his edition:
If you would like to donate to the ongoing aid efforts, here are three trustworthy organizations worthy of your support:AKUT - Non-governmental search and rescue organization
AHBAP - NGO, focuses on humanitarian aid
Network for Animals - Provides food/vet supplies/blankets to cats and dogs
Additionally, Turkish Consulates across the US are seeking supplies such as hand warmers, sleeping bags, winter clothing, and over-the-counter flu and cold medications.
Randy Garman's latest newsletter
also included links. He is in the US, but highlighted some ways to support the work in Syria. From his edition 40:The White Helmets - The White Helmets (also known as the Syria Civil Defence) are volunteers who have saved more than 100,000 lives over the past five years. In a place where public services no longer function, these humanitarian volunteers risk their lives to help anyone in need – regardless of their religion or politics.
The Syrian American Medical Society Foundation - The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) Foundation is a global medical relief organization that is working on the front lines of crisis relief in Syria, in neighboring countries, and beyond to save lives and alleviate suffering. SAMS proudly provides medical care and treatment to every patient in need.
Direct Relief - Direct Relief works in the US and internationally to expand access to medicine and healthcare by equipping doctors and nurses with lifesaving medical resources.
We each have our own way of recognizing and honouring the many dead and injured. Numbered over 44,000 and counting. Maybe it is a matching program at work or school. Or the care package of flu and cold medication and handwarmers. Or a message of prayer and support to someone who is supporting someone.
To those helping dig through the rubble, my heartfelt thanks and prayers for today and the future.
On occasions such as this, I am humbled that in a world of 8 billion people, my personal network can be this closely knitted.
