Thanks for emphasizing the importance of self-confidence, Karena. It might be helpful to think about the related concept of self-efficacy: self-confidence is the feeling that you can do something, self-efficacy is the belief that you can do something.

Most of the time, the belief and the feeling co-occur...but the mind's beliefs and the gut's feelings are not always in sync. And there's some evidence that there may be subtle differences in how to nurture each of them.

(We're having to deal with this as part of our effort to develop self-confidence and self-efficacy in employee-led workplace innovation, where there are also other issues about identify and motivation as innovators.)
