Call your Mum
E243: Mothers Day 2026
Call home. Talk to your mother. Anytime. About nothing, anything or everything. She loves to see your name light up her phone.
Those of us in Tribe Tilt who have lost our mothers truly understand Salman Ansari ‘s plea and advice below.
Call your mom, will you? Talk to her. Make her smile. Listen to her stories. Write them down. They won’t be here forever.
Mothers come in all shapes and forms
I found this stunning street art series in a little alley, painted by Victoria Cano Perez to commemorate the flooding that hit Valencia in 1957.
The caption inspired me to write a poem:
Mothers come in all shapes and forms
There are those mothers who are up at two in the morning
Covered in goop and poop
And ice to bring down the fever.
And those that sit still … patiently
Surrounded by crazy toddlers
Twirling and whirling like dervishes
Dressed up in neon braids and crazy nails
Drinking tea out of tiny tea cups.
And those who never gave birth
But are the loudest advocates
For their nephews and nieces
Cheering loudly at ballet recitals and soccer matches
Who hate the sight of blood
But sit patiently for hours in ER
Holding the hand of nephews and nieces
While they collect scars and casts.
Grandmothers
And grand mothers who watch out for a new generation
Those who look after their own babies
While they look after their new babies.
Gaia
And those who never have the family they planned
But open their big hearts and big arms to the planet
And look after other humans - relatives or not
And plants and animals and Spirit ...
So on Mother’s day
We give thanks for all ‘Mothers’
And for Mother Earth.
