Bitings
There were olives and pistachios. Bruschetta and tiny samoosas to partner the cocktail sausages in the other platter. “Bitings” is what my Dad called these nibbles that we would put out to sate our travel-weary guests as they walked through the door for our family gatherings. Not the full meal. Just some nibbles.
So much has happened this week. I have lots to share, no time to plate it out into full portions. I do, however, have every intention of sharing the back story on these snippets over the coming weeks.
Your bitings in this 40th edition of the newsletter:
Time-sensitive - seeking an Executive Director to lead the Town of Oakville’s energy reduction project - applications close Monday June 20, 2022

Our 100+ community of Tilters is diverse in interests and contacts - and I am hoping someone here knows someone who knows someone who might be interested ….
Hiring someone to make a climate difference
How motivated are you to be part of the solution for climate? Do you know someone who is resolute about making a difference in the climate conversation, and has the skills we seek?
Our town of Oakville is looking for a capable and adamant candidate who can work with the various town citizens - residents, education, commerce - to spear head a set of projects. Role: Executive Director. Salary range: $90K-$120K CAD. Details in the Indeed application link below.
What would s/he/they/you do? Working with Future Energy Oakville (FEO) you will lead a four-pronged initiative that by 2041 will:
- reduce the town's green house gas consumption by half
- increase energy efficiency by 40% min
It is ambitious. But you are surrounded by a dynamic town and motivated citizens. You will work with industry (we are home to Ford, Siemens, Hatch and other major corporations); education - Sheridan college and the school boards; municipality - Town of Oakville is a key partner.
We are re-imagining transportation across our town, looking at making our homes and offices energy efficient, working with schools and citizens of all ages to develop solutions and educate each other.
While you will be able to work remotely, there will be portions of the job that require you to interface with groups in the Town of Oakville. You need to have the necessary papers to work in Canada.
The best idea can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time. If you have the right motivation, a good handle on energy, can galvanize communities, raise grant money and motivate staff, and you care about climate, we want to hear from you for this role.
Please apply on Indeed ASAP. Job posting closes on Monday June 20, 2022.

If this project interests you, but you may not be a fit for this particular position, stay tuned. We will be posting all the support positions. If you can help us raise funds for this project please email me.
As Seth Godin says in The Carbon Almanac “it's not too late for concerted, collective action for change.”
For a later edition, I will share my role at FEO.
Authority by Design
I’d been searching for ways to visually simplify my messages around climate and the Future of Work when Terri Lonier invited me to join her class Authority by Design.
Could I communicate complex conversations quickly? I picked up many ideas from her 3-week 6-session program. When you look back on the class, you will say “I knew that all along”. But those are the best classes - the ones that repackage and simplify common-sense. Terri has a lifetime of experience to share. She showcased five frameworks for communication: circles, triangles, pathways, squares and networks.
I tested the triangle framework for my essay on the BTS algorithm funnel (yes, that Korean boy-band that visited the UN, the White House and just went on haitus to the disappointment of 90 million fans worldwide!):
In coming editions of the newsletter I will introduce the Tilt community to Terri Lonier in a Meet a Member segment. (She coined the phrase “solopreneur”).
Meantime, she is advertising her July cohort. There is an early bird pricing in place if you register before June 28, 2022. Use a referral code KARENA and I will get ambassador credit and bragging rights with Terri!

Gatherings
My cousin married in Kew Gardens this past week. It was beautiful - the kind of English summer day that God reserves for the special ones. Wispy cotton puff clouds in a blue sky. The thwack of a cricket ball hitting a bat on the lawns outside. Aunts, uncles and cousins gathered in these famous gardens from all parts of the world - nonagenarians from Texas swapped stories and advice with GenZs from Singapore.
“Let’s put out some bitings,” my cousin suggested, as the after parties continued at our home during the week “your Dad would have wanted that.” I think we are all missing my Dad a little extra this week.
Connecting people to opportunities and ideas is how I choose to make my difference in the world. Wishing you a wonderful week ahead in making the difference you choose to make.
I will be travelling to Scotland over the coming editions. I’m planning on technology assisting me in maintaining my weekly publication schedule.
See you soon. Till then, stay healthy and happy.

Those bitings look mighty good!
